History
Flo Charlotte was started on accident. In 2017, Audrey Brewer was talking to a friend about how people experiencing homelessness handle their periods without access to supplies. The thought had never occurred to her, but once she saw a need, doing nothing was not an option. So she posted on Facebook.
"Hey y'all, I'm thinking about taking some pads and tampons to the local homeless shelter. If you want to mail some to my house or bring them by, I'll drop off your donations as well!"
That week, she received no fewer than one hundred boxes of tampons, pads, and cleansing wipes.
Soon after that, Ricketa Harvey came across this Facebook post and reached out to Audrey. Over a slice of pizza in Uptown, Ricketa looked at Audrey and posed the idea of making this mission more than a one-time donation.
With Ricketa’s business-savvy and project management expertise and Audrey’s marketing background, Flo Charlotte was born.
Since that time, the outreach has expanded to include students, veterans, children in foster care, domestic violence shelters, and more. The expanded reach amplified the need for a third board member, so Elizabeth Ouzts joined the team as the Engagement Director. Her creativity, enthusiasm, and love of other humans has strengthened and energized the entire organization as we continue the work.
