Want to volunteer? Here’s how you can get involved and make a huge impact RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE!
If you want to get involved at Flo Charlotte, the best way to do that is to collect pads and tampons — run a pad drive, host a packing party, do a collection at your office, etc. Then we can connect you with a location that needs those supplies so you can drop them off directly.
Flo Charlotte doesn’t have in-person volunteer opportunities like traditional non-profits. Our main goal is to collect hygiene products and get them to those who need them. Your help in doing one or both of these things is the most meaningful and impactful way to get involved!
Pad Drives
We encourage individuals and organizations to run pad drives within their friends circle or groups that they are affiliated with, like church groups, athletic groups (at games, for example), workplaces, etc. We've seen people get quite creative with this. This is probably the easiest way to make a difference quickly! Some ideas:
Friends groups: Have some friends over for a cocktail night or backyard barbecue, and ask everyone to bring one box of pads and one box of tampons!
Workplace/educational setting: You could talk to your colleagues or students and try to fill a large cardboard box with pads, tampons, wipes, and sealed packs of new underwear in various sizes.
Youth group: We've had a youth group hold a movie night and everyone brought a pack of pads as their "ticket."
Sports team: At sports games, anyone who brings a pack of pads or donates $5 can be entered into a raffle for a donated prize.
Donations of this kind are crucial to helping us keep our donation locations fully stocked.
Special Projects
Hygiene Closet - We recently partnered with a Girl Scout troop to help them brainstorm ways to make a hygiene closet at each of their middle school. This was TOTALLY their idea, and the drive these young women showed to make a difference in the world around them was inspiring. We were honored to have some time to sit down with them and hear their hearts! World changers, for sure.
Let the Beer Flo - Birdsong Brewery in Charlotte, NC, hosted a cocktail hour on International Womens’ Day (2017), where a portion of every pint that was served between the hours of 7p-9p was donated to Flo Charlotte. This was a great way to get social and for the community to hear about what we were doing. This was our first public fundraiser and it was so encouraging to see how many people came out!
events and festivals
We were excited to be the official charity featured at Femme Fest 2018! We hosted a supply drive on-site in lieu of full admission and were able to get the festival-goers involved as we did a packing party right there at the event!

Packing Parties
Once you have a few boxes of pads and a few boxes of tampons, place 5 pads and 5 tampons in a resealable sandwich bag, along with an insert showing where refills can be obtained.
This is helpful when we’re handing out supplies that we aren’t wasteful, and that we don’t take up valuable space in the bags of the people who receive these products.
Then just drop them at one of our community donation locations or at a shelter or school.

Adopt A SCHOOL
Another really easy and hyper-local way to stay involved with Flo Charlotte is to adopt a local school. Our volunteer coordinator, Elizabeth, keeps up with the social workers and nurses at schools to know when they need more supplies for the students that may not otherwise have access to these things.
As the school sponsor, Elizabeth would contact you to request a drop-off of supplies! This would be an awesome time to have a pad drive in your neighborhood or at work, since this directly benefits the community in which you live (we try to pair you with a nearby school.)
If you’d like to adopt a school near you, contact us and put “Adopt a School” in the subject line! Elizabeth will be happy to let you know which schools near you need the most support!
conferences
Our Executive Director, Ricketa, attended the Thank God I’m a Girl Conference for the second year in a row and talked with the young ladies there about what it’s like to need a pad and not have one! Attendees facilitated a packing party on site using the donations collected at the conference!
